Saudi Arabia unveils transport plan

Saudi Arabia's transport minister, Jabara Al-Seraisry, has unveiled plans for a SAR 21 billion (US$ 5.6 billion) monorail project in the capital Jeddah, according to local news agency Arab Herald.

The plans form part of a new public transport system, which also includes, bus and tram links to the city's residential districts.

Minister Al-Seraisry was quoted as saying the project would include 816 buses, 201 stations, and "dozens" of trams. It is expected the new system will have an annual operational cost of SAR 370 million (US$ 98.6 million).
