In an effort to meet the huge demand for aggregates in Dubai, UAE, Demir Export has turned to a fleet of Volvoexcavatorsand wheeled loaders. Based in Demir's Ra's al Khaimah quarry, 100 km north of Dubai, the equipment is loading independently owned and operated haulers quickly and efficiently, a crucial selling point in a region where time is money, according to Hamit Aykut Unal, manager of Demir's Wadi Is ni quarry

“We have to fill the trucks fast or their drivers will not wait and will work for our competitors instead. Each driver wants to make two or even three trips from quarry to customer a day, and any delay in getting refilled can reduce their profitability,” said Mr Unal.

Four Volvo EC460B excavators, an EC290B excavator and two L180E wheel loaders are currently loading over 170 trucks a day at the site, and load times range from five minutes for loose material to 20 minutes for large armour rock.
