Wind aquisitions and expansion at Makro
13 August 2010
Crane services company Makro, based in Brazil, is acquiring a range of mobile telescopic and crawler cranes, with wind energy being a major focus. A recent addition to the fleet was a 1,200 tonne capacity Liebherr LTR 11200.
Recognising that national and international investors would have difficulty in finding equipment and a specialized workforce in Brazil, Makro Engenharia has also introduced its Division Wind, to serve the wind power segment.
Makro has also established a training centre for wind turbine assembly and maintenance. It is the first such centre in Brazil, according to the company. There is a theory classroom for more than 50 students and it offers a repair shop where students handle common components, including steel tower segments, hubs and electric panels.
The company added, "Brazil has been displaying great economic growth and that has aroused the interest of multinationals to invest in new projects. [They demand] new technologies and a standard of quality that requires investment from the local companies."
Part of these requirements includes complete, integrated solutions for customers, from initial planning through to the entire engineering process and providing specialized workforces, added the company.
